SEO (Search Engine Optimization) |
| SEO is a process, a process that involves many factors required to be successful. When the right techniques are implicated both on and off your website your site WILL climb the ranks in popular search engines like Google, Yahoo & Bing. How Long Will It Take My Website to Rank? This is the most common question site and business owners have as well it should be. There are quite a few different factors that play into the time-table of getting your SEO campaign to start returning results. For Brand New Sites First off, if you are starting with a brand new site and domain (www.yourbusiness.com) don't expect to rank for any COMPTETITIVE keywords for at least 8-12 months. Does that mean your site won't pull any traffic for 8-12 months? No. You will find that ranking for competitive keywords is nice but it will not be the major factor that drives traffic to your site.Established Domain Names What I mean by established domain names is having your "www.yourbusiness.com" for a minimum of 1 year and anything on top of that is even the better. Google places a lot of emphasis on TRUST. Would you trust a business that just started up last week or one that has been around 5 or even 10 years? It's an obvious answer and Google works much the same way. Does this mean they (established domains) will always outrank a newer domain? Not at all. With the CORRECT SEO TECHNIQUES the sky is the limit but time will play a factor, without question. So in terms of domains, new sites are OK, older sites are better. Just make sure your expectations are reasonable. But I've had SEO Companies GUARANTEE #1 Results For My Business? Can You Do That? Short answer, no. I never have and never will guarantee placement in search engines on any site I have worked on and if any so-called SEO Company will do that you should run for the hills. Google is constantly changing their algorithm and although some changes may not be as apparent as others, there is no one (other than Google Engineers) who know exactly what it takes to rank. This entire industry is 100% based on speculation and testing to see what brings them success and those ideas are incorporated as "What SEO Strategies Work". In the end, you cannot guarantee something that you cannot control and to do that is unethical to say the least. So How Do I Know How Good an SEO Company Is? Easy, ask for references. Good old fashioned research will be the best factor here. If an seo company will provide you with real examples of sites they get to rank in COMPETITIVE VERTICLES then more than likely they know what they're talking about. I highlighted competitive verticles because so many seo's will provide examples of sites they worked on that rank well for such off topic or long-tail key phrases it's ridiculous. Be smart here and do your research, it could end up saving you thousands of dollars in the long run. ![]() I Already Have a Website, Will I Have to Rebuild My Site for SEO Purposes? There is no definite answer here. 9 times out of 10 your current website will need to be updated and/or rebuilt from the inside out to make sure the link structure as well as the content are optimized for the greatest potential to rank. Another factor that comes into play here which is many times overlooked when you concentrate too much on SEO is actually designing a website to convert those customers that land on your website from search engines. You can get 100 hits per day but if your website is not setup for conversions you are missing the whole purpose of having a website. So again, your site may be ok as it stands but more often than not it will need to be rebuilt to maximize your SEO Campaign as well as conversions and naturally ROI. A website is a necessity if you own a business, period. Now more than ever consumers are not only searching online for local businesses but researching businesses as well. Even if you don't intend on actively promoting your website it is very reassuring from a consumer standpoint to see that your business is represented online, the right way. Getting Your Business Online the Right Way If you build it, they won't come. You've seen them, we've all seen them. Websites that were created by the business owner themselves or some generic template with distorted pictures inserted throughout. My honest opinion is that if you prefer to go this route "just to have a website" then don't have one at all. I would rather see that a business does not have a website than to see a very unprofessional appearence online. The first thing I think is that if they put this much effort into their website then what's to say they don't have the same attitude towards their business. It just comes back to the old saying, "If you're going to do something, do it right". What is the Right Way to Get Online? Do some searches, see what else is out there in your market. You know what looks good and what you would want to see when landing on a website. You don't need to reinvent the wheel, just make sure you are putting your best foot forward because it could be a matter of converting consumers or not converting them into customers. The next step is to hire someone who knows what they're doing. I don't fix my air conditioning when it goes out because I am not an a/c repair man and the same attitude needs to be put toward your website. It doesn't hurt to shop around and you will be able to tell very easily what works best for you both cost wise and design wise within' 5 minutes of talking to a designer. Well I Have a Website But I Never Get Business From It? Don't expect to. If you are not actively out there promoting your website or paying someone to do it you will be just another one of the millions of websites out there on the net. Does this mean you need to spend money, no. But don't expect to get something out if you're not putting something in. What I mean by that is that it takes a lot of time and consistency to start getting a steady flow of traffic to your site but once the work is put in you will be amazed at the power of the internet. Print Marketing |
If you own a business you need business cards, invoices, postcards, flyers, etc. What I do is making sure you get these items at very low prices and 9 times out of 10 upgrading the quality. A company brand is something many business owners don't pay attention to because they're either too busy trying to market their business or just plain don't give it any thought. What is a Company Brand? A brand is more than just a company logo or image. It is the feeling that you portray to your consumers. The first step is identifying what sets your company apart from your competitors and this should be very easily identifiable and unique. Don't say customer service or quality products, because last I checked there is no company out there trying to get across that their products are average and just ok. Get your point across and K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid). I Have a Brand, Now What? Again, be consistent, use it everywhere. Any piece of literature, marketing, email signatures, etc. Make sure it is present and over time, not only your logo but your message will be 1 in the same. When you see a pair a shoes with a "Swoosh" on them are you unsure of what company makes those? That is a global example everyone can be familiar with but the same message can be put across in your local market. This isn't something that will happen in months or even a few years in most cases but stay consistent and patient. I'll use the same advice with print marketing I do with Search Engine Optimization and Website Design, you get out what you put in and that doesn't necessarily mean dollars. I find most business owners doing what they have to do to get by but if you stop and really disect your business and optimize every facet you will be amazed at the results and ROI.
